About Me

Hi I’m Lori Benka, the face behind Finding Joy in Today. This blog was created to remind you as well as myself that joy is possible in the scary moments of life. We have been given the powerful Word of God to help us whenever we feel defeated, anxious, or fearful. We can run to God and know in our hearts that He will never leave us or forsake us

A few things about me: I am a Jesus loving girl who loves to write, play music, decorate, and garden. I am married to a preacher man and have two wonderful adult sons, a beautiful daughter-in-law, and two adorable grandchildren.

After battling anxiety and PTSD, I have a passion to help people find joy and overcome anxiety, fear and depression.

Join me on my space on the web as we learn the scripture and find that Jesus is our One true joy.

I pray you leave encouraged, refreshed, and restored.

The Story Behind the Joy

Finding Joy in Today began as journal entries throughout the years as reminders that God never left me and has a good future in store. Every hardship, every trial, every anxious thought brought me here to share the raw, the ugly as well as the good, to encourage you that there is hope for your future and you will experience peace and joy again.

In my battle with fear and anxiety I would pray, quote scripture, and go to counselors with success and would then find myself in the pits of fear again. One thing I learned through all of this is finding joy in the midst of battle literally comes with changing the mindset. I needed to take the scripture and literally meditate on it and speak it out loud so I could hear what God was promising me.

I pray that with each word written, you too will be able to let go of what is holding you back and find joy in today.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 15:13

This is my youngest son who recently went through a very scary health situation. God showed up in the middle of the mess and healed him and now he has his own house and a good future in store.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2

From joyful worship moments and Scripture art, each image is chosen to lift your eyes, steady your heart, and visually echo the truth that joy in Christ is for today. God is so very good!
